Day 11:
Burpee Buy-In - 66
Burpees Remaining - 4,984
Is your New Years resolution always the same - Lose Weight. Why focus on something so specific? Because it's so measurable ... right!?! The issue with picking specific goals is that your entire mental and emotional state weighs (no pun intended) on what number that small dial lands on each week. If it goes down ... awesome!!! If it goes up ... devastating!!!
Before CrossFit, you better believe I was one of the millions doing the above. For 2009, I'm making a resolution to "be more fit" and with CrossFit, it's easy to see results! Three months from now, if I PR "Helen" by 30 seconds and the scale shows me gaining two pounds ... why should I feel defeated when those two pounds could have been the reason I PR'd by 30 seconds!
Break the alliance you have with your scale ... it is not your friend so stop letting it control who you are!
Give credit to Andy Petranek from CrossFit LA for this (Something to live by?):
1. I will promise to do my best. My best will vary from day to day, from hour to hour, from minute to minute. But in that minute, I will do the very best that I can.
2. If I can run, I run. If Ihave to walk, I walk. When I am forced to crawl, I crawl. And then, I rest and live to fight another day.
3. I fear no man, but I fear my workout. If I don't fear my workout, it isn't hard enough.
4. I never cheat. There is no honor in cheating. What joy can there be in a victory I did not earn?
5. I may puke. I may cry. But I will not quit. Ever.
